Well my Dr. had previously told me she wouldn't induce me if I wasn't dilated. When she checked me I was finally at a tight 1cm she said, and that with a baby this big she thought I should either be induced at midnight or schedule a C-section for the next week! This was not at all what Jordan and I expected to hear, and we both just sat there fighting back tears. I just really don't like making choices like this. As I said I feel this is a God thing, and I didn't have time to wait for God to tell me what to do. I ended up just letting Jordan decide. He wanted me to try for normal delivery so we went home and prepared to be at the hospital at midnight.
Once we got to the hospital we were shown our room and told that they were shorthanded that night so it would be a little bit before they got to me. That made me mad! I could have been asleep at home in my bed. About an hour later they came in and got my IV going and started my pitocin. Well I made very very very slow progress all morning. At about 7am the Dr. decided to break my water and see if she could speed things up. At this point I was at 2cm. Well my noon I had made it to 4cm, but that is where it all ended. I stayed at 4cm all afternoon. I was in some serious pain and my contractions were hard and regular. The nurses said judging by my contractions you would have thought it was time to push. The Dr. gave me the option of waiting another hour or having a C-section and I took the wimpy way out. I was done. I was over the pain and I was too exhausted to push even if I was dilated. I also didn't want to stay like this all night long. So at 530pm they began my surgery prep. Seth David Gist was born at 616 weighing 8lb. 8oz. and had a head full of light brown hair. He was PERFECT! It was a very very long day, and Jordan was up until midnight giving Seth his first bath. I really hate that I missed out on his first few hours of life, but we have very quickly made up for it. Seth lost down to 7lb. 2oz. in the hospital and was slightly jaundice, but he gained back up to 8lb 9oz. by his one week weight check so all is good.
Here are some pictures from our first few days.
