Seth's first health scare

Seth appeared to be perect to Jordan and me. One afternoon when he was about 2 weeks old my phone rang. It was our wonderful peciatrician. I didn't know the number so I didn't answer. She left me a message and just said Seth had some questionable results on his newborn screening, and Don't freak out. (Um hello I was freaking). She would call me back in a little bit. Well as I waited Jordan came home. I was holding it together until I had to tell him that the Dr. called and what she had said. Of course we were both like what on earth could it be. Neither of our familes have anything "bad" genetics wise that we could think of. So we waited. It was a short time when the Dr. called back. Seth had quesionable results on his cystic fibrosis screening. We didn't know much about CF, but I knew enough to know it wasn't a good thing. I cried and cried. Finally we told our parents, and we made plans to go to Children's hostital in B'ham . The bad thing about the testing is that the child must be 4 weeks old before they can have the test run to detemine if they for sure have CF or not. So we waited and on August 5 we went to Childrens. Seth's test came back NEGATIVE, and we all praised the Lord.

Seth is a carrier of Cystic Fibrosis which means his children can have the disease if their mother is also a carrier. Jordan and I are now in the process of genetic testing(waiting to hear if insurance will pay) to find out if we are both carriers. We know at least one of us is, but we don't know which one.

Seth was such a trooper the day of his test. The nurse said she doesn't ever have to fight infants like she had to with him. He was so strong. Here is a picture of our little one as he waited for his body to produce the sweat needed to perform the test.
