Tomorrow I will be volunteering at one of my favorite local charities. The Shoals Community Soup Kitchen opened its doors earlier this year and is located at First Presbyterian Church of Florence. The kitchen is run by other local churches and volunteers. My home church currently serves on the second Friday and fourth Saturday of each month. I try to make it to serve on all the Saturdays, and I have made it to a couple of the Fridays when I was off work for various reasons. This ministry is much needed in our area with the current economic conditions. It is amazing how grateful the people are who come to eat and how sweet and kind they are. When I started volunteering here I was unsure of what to expect, but I have grown to love it! For more information about how you can help contact your local church or First Pres. At 256-764-2081. The soup kitchen currently is only open on Fridays and Saturdays serving approximately 65 meals from Noon until 1pm.
