Thanksgiving Week Day 1

For the rest of this week I am going to spend time blogging about what I am thankful for.

Today I am thankful for my grandparents. All of them even my Great-grandparents and the ones I didn't have the chance to get to know. Growing up I spent alot of time with my Mom's parents, and I can honestly say they are the reason I am who I am. I wouldn't be the same without them.

My Dad's parents showed me a different side of life though. They lived on a farm in rural south Alabama. I don't remember too much about my Dad's Dad and I don't even know his Mom very well. She is still alive, but never spent a great deal of time with us. My memories of her are funny though. She rolled her own cigarettes and would talk while smoking and cooking or cleaning. I now get a big kick out of this. She always gave me a hard time for being a picky eater, because I didn't want her homeade ketchup or brown eggs! Now I totally understand why she had these odd things.

Back to my Mom's parents. My Gram was super frugal! Everything I know about saving and not wasting came from her. She made me eat my M&Ms one at a time! I now do this to my family whenever I see someone grab a big handful of any candy I am like one at a time please. Silly the little things that we never forget. Today I am most thankful for my Grampa though. He died four years ago today on Thanksgiving Eve. Thanksgiving was his favorite holiday and it was so fitting that he went home to be with Jesus on that day. He was a one of a kind man and I am way too much like him. Most of his friends always said "It is Mr. Lowe's way or no way" and that was SO true. Thankfully I always thought his way was right. He taught me to work hard for what I wanted. He was always a good sport and let me fix his hair as a little girl. I now feel bad for the torture I put him through haha. He probably was SO glad when I out grew that phase. He also taught all of the the love for nature and the outdoors. We spent most of our time on his farm where he grew pine trees. I never see a pine tree that I don't think about him.

I only knew one of my Great-Grandmothers. She was my Granny, my Grampa's Mom, and I remember how much I loved going to her house in rural Mississippi. Everything there was very old and southern. I will try to find some pictures this week to add from her house. I loved it going there. Except I got bored fast haha. That's what happens when you take a city girl to the country.
